Typically here on the Brightside Films blog, we only cover human weddings. But hey, you know what? It’s Friday, it’s cold out and there’s nothing cuter in the world than puppy love (literally) so I’m going for it.
The latest trend in weddings nowadays is you guessed it, dog weddings aka “puptials”. I’m not kidding. There is actually a company in LA that specializes in grand events for pets, like weddings and barkdays (aka birthdays).
And pet owners go all out! There are dresses, music, flowers, dog food galore, even bridesmaids and groomsmen! Of course these weddings don’t last nearly as long as a human one, given a dog’s short attention span – squirrel!
Puptials can range anymore from a few hundred to thousands of dollars. But it’s not all fun and games, sometimes dog weddings are actually used as a ploy for a good cause. As a charity fundraiser for the Humane Society of New York in 2012, a lavish pet wedding occured between Baby Hope Diamond, a Cotton de Tulear and Chilly Pasternak, a poodle.
Tables cost $10,000 and everything for the wedding was donated by local vendors. The event successfully raised $158,187.26 and earned the title of most expensive pet wedding in the Guinness Book of World Records.
