As 2014 comes to a close and with 2015 quickly approaching, Pantone is preparing us for a colourful year ahead by releasing their official colour of the year for 2015: Marsala.
Pantone is the design world’s expert on worldwide colour trends. Every December, they release their official colour for the upcoming year so designers in weddings, fashion and interior design can plan according to trend. The colour selection is the result of years of research into worldwide trends, pop culture and major events, such as the Olympics. They seek out shades around the globe that will peek consumers interest, ultimately predicting consumer spending. In fact, Pantone releases a selection of official colours for every season which we talked about here.
2014’s colour of the year was Radiant Orchid (see here) which I wasn’t a particular fan of. It was bright and feminine which I found quite polarizing. 2015’s colour of the year, Marsala, on the other hand is on point. It’s a deep rich burgundy that reminds me of a nice glass of red wine and an Al Fresco outdoor dinner on a warm summer night. The colour is universally flattering and suits every season, although most will associate it’s rich tones with Autumn.
Take a look at Marsala below. Do you like it? Do you think it’s an improvement on last year’s Radiant Orchid or is it an downgrade? Will you be incorporating 2015’s colour of the year into your wedding? Let us know in the comment section. We’d love to hear from you!
